Leaked 2009 Cable Labels Saudi Arabia 'Most Significant Source Of Funding To Terrorist Groups Worldwide' - Exposes Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, And Pakistan

While the Saudi military continues to besiege Yemen and create the worst humanitarian crisis on the planet today, the United States also continues to arm and abet KSA in their war against the Yemeni people. Yemen, of course, is nothing more than a proxy war against Iran and a geopolitical chess move on the part of both the Saudis and the Americans and, for that reason, no amount of war crimes and intentional targeting of civilians has warranted anything more than a tepid criticism of the Saudis by the current US administration.

The Saudis, because of their oil and money, are untouchables. KSA can kill journalists in an open and brutal fashion, chop off heads in the city square, oppress its female population like no other country in the world, and launch unjustified wars with no consequence. KSA can even fund and direct terrorist organizations across the world with very little restraint.

That the United States has been well aware of the Saudi financing of terrorist organizations is no secret and has been revealed on numerous occasions. It has also been documented that the United States works closely with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf State feudal monarchies in the use of those terrorists around the world to further its own political and geopolitical aims.

In terms of money alone, however, Saudi Arabia is unparalleled in the ranks of nations that finance terrorism. In fact, in a leaked 2009 State Department cable and published by Wikileaks, the United States referred to KSA as the “most significant source of funding to Sunni terrorist groups worldwide.”

The cable, signed by then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, states that Saudi Arabia “remains a critical financial support base for al-Qaida, the Taliban, LeT and other terrorist groups.” See “Terrorist Finance: Action Request For Senior Level Engagement On Terrorist Finance.”

Multiple Motives Exist As Reason For Turkish Invasion Of Syria

Turkey has invaded Syria to fight against the Kurds. Turkey is fighting alongside FSA terrorists while the United States, a Turkish ally is fighting alongside Kurdish terrorists. The Syrian military is pushing northwest toward Idlib city and the Russian, Iranian, and Hezbollah forces remain in the country to stabilize the situation and defeat jihadist groups continuing to operate there. The Kurds work with the FSA but the FSA is now working with the Turks. The FSA also works with the United States who in turn works with the Kurds.

This is a brief example of the complexities of the Syrian crisis, exacerbated by recent events. For most casual observers, it is becoming harder to determine who is fighting who and likewise who is working together. With so many competing agendas and interests, the waters have become so muddied even researchers and journalists familiar with the crisis are less clear as to what is happening in Syria right now.

In order to understand what is currently taking place in Syria, it is important to understand the interests of the parties involved. Quite simply, one needs to know what these parties want. After understanding the agenda of the nations taking part in the conflict, it will be easier to understand the possibilities in terms of where the recent Turk invasion is going to take Turkey, Syria, the United States, the Middle East, and the world.

The United States

Former Qatari Prime Minister Admits Funding Nusra/Qaeda In Syria With U.S. Knowledge And Approval

In the same week an NSA secret document was released which revealed that the terrorists in Syria were directly under the command of foreign governments like Saudi Arabia and the United States and that the attack on Damascus International Airport was ordered by KSA and supported by the U.S., a Qatari official has admitted that the tiny Gulf nation colluded with other nations to wage war on Syria, support terrorists in the country, and even support al-Qaeda/al-Nusra.

The Qatari official, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hamid bin Jassim Bin Jaber al Thani, gave an interview with Qatari TV where he revealed what many have known for a long time. Indeed, Jassim would be in a position to know, since he oversaw those operations until 2013. During the course of the interview, Jassim revealed that Qatar, along with the United States, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, shipped weapons to terrorists since the moment the crisis “first started” in 2011.

Jassim expressed no regret for funding these terrorists, only for the fact that Qatar’s allies did not properly inform Qatar when “the game changed” and the plans in Syria allegedly shifted. Despite admitting that Qatar had no legitimate problems with Bashar al-Assad, Jassim’s only complaints were that there was a lack of adequate communication between the “allies” and Qatar.

Jassim stated:

Syria . . . When events began in Syria, I went to Saudi Arabia and met with King Abdullah upon the instructions of his Royal Highness the Father. I addressed the situation (in Syria). The Saudi King said “We are with you.” The Saudi King said “You lead the Syrian file and we coordinate with you.” We took the responsibility and we have all the evidence on this issue. [Any support from the Gulf] was going to Turkey and was coordinated with U.S. forces. The distribution of military support was happening by the American, Turkish, Qatari, and Saudi forces. They were all there. The military personnel were there. Maybe a mistake happened where a particular faction [al-Nusra] has been supported for a period of time, but not ISIS/Daesh, accusing us of supporting ISIS is an exaggeration. Maybe there was a relationship with al-Nusra Front. I swear I don’t know about this topic. I say, even if there was support to al-Nusra, but when they told us this support to al-Nusra is unacceptable, the support has stopped. And the focus was on liberating Syria. We were fighting over the prey. Meanwhile, the prey escaped. Now, Bashar al-Assad remains, and you are telling us, let him stay. We don’t have a problem with that. We have no revenge with Assad. He was our friend. But you [Saudi Arabia] were with us in the same camp. Tell us if you changed the camp. We also change.

U.S. Troops On The Ground In Yemen, Bombing Missions For Strategic Alliance

Quietly, the United States has managed to turn its war on Yemen from a “leading from behind with a lot of technical assistance” program to a “if you want something done right, do it yourself” system. While the U.S. has repeatedly referred to the crime against humanity launched against the Yemeni people by Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E. as KSA’s war, it has provided both with large of amounts of technical assistance, intelligence, and equipment with which to fight it.

The United States has even engaged in direct combat from time to time, including a now infamous operation that left one Navy SEAL dead.

Now, however, the U.S. has stepped up its involvement to joint operations with Saudi and Emirati forces on the ground in Yemen. The operations have been reported on by the mainstream press but in scant articles that only hint around at the scope of American involvement. This has led many to suspect that the Americans are more heavily involved than what is being made public.

As the Washington Post reports,

A contingent of U.S. troops is involved in a Yemeni operation to push al-Qaeda militants from one of their key strongholds in central Yemen, the Pentagon said Friday. 

A small number of troops are there to help with “intelligence sharing,” Pentagon spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis said, though he did not rule out that more U.S. forces could be committed to the operation in the coming weeks. 

Saudi Arabia Showing Signs Of Support For Kurdish Fighters, Shows Possible Rift With Turkey Over Qatar

Only days after the falling out between Saudi Arabia and Qatar that resulted in a virtual blockade of Qatar by Gulf countries and Egypt, overtures are apparently being made between Saudi Arabia and Kurdish political and military units. While many may not understand the connection between the two events, rest assured there is a direct cause- and –effect between the Qatari row and the newfound interest in Kurds by Saudi Arabia.

Shortly after the Qatari isolation, Turkey announced that not only was it not taking part in the isolation, but that it was moving troops to a base in Qatar. Turkey did not take part in the movement against Qatar likely because of Qatari support for the Muslim Brotherhood, a powerful force in Turkey to which Erdogan is close to say the least. Thus, with both Turkey and Qatar engaged in supporting the Brotherhood and terrorists in Syria, it was logical that the two would retain ties.

Saudi Arabia, however, having long worried about Muslim Brotherhood activity in KSA (and for other reasons) and the country leading the charge against Qatar is thus now sending overtures toward Kurdish forces in all four countries – Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Turkey. These overtures, some analysts suspect, may very well turn into direct financial payments at some point in the future.

Although it appears that direct payments or official support has yet to take place, Saudi social media is alight with pro-Kurdish sentiment and hashtags like #saudiwithkurdistan. This is notable because, in Saudi Arabia, social media is heavily restricted, almost to the point of being state run and users are always in danger of being brutally punished for even the most routine statements.

The fact that the Kurdish fighting units are the enemy of Turkey and that Saudi Arabia might be open to supporting them signals that Turkey is going to be punished by KSA for its support of Qatar and the Muslim Brotherhood. The United States has also offered greater support to Kurdish fighters, particularly in Syria, and Kurdish Iraqis have finally set a date on their “Referendum” on independence set to take place in September, 2017. Both the Turkish and Iraqi governments have condemned the latter moves but the United States has remained silent.

Why Has The GCC and Egypt Turned On Qatar?

In a shocking move, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates and Bahrain led banded together to cut ties with Qatar at the same time, leaving much of the world stunned. Even more unexpected was the reason given by Saudi Arabia; i.e. that Qatar is supporting terrorism. The demands made by the anti-Qatar coalition were that Qatar cease funding “terrorist organizations” (Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas) before ties are restored.

The recent isolation of Qatar by Saudi Arabia and several other Gulf State countries as well as Egypt caught many in the geopolitical world by surprise and has left many people scratching their heads as to why such a willing and active player in worldwide destabilization would suddenly be abandoned by several of the states that have colluded with it in the past. The answer is anything but simple but it is actually more logical than how it might appear on the surface.

The Muslim Brotherhood Element

In order to understand the recent diplomatic crisis, it is first important to note which countries have cut ties with Qatar. These countries are Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain. Laughably, these countries are justifying their actions on the basis that Qatar is funding terrorism.

Of course, Qatar is funding terrorists much like Saudi Arabia and UAE. For the latter two countries to claim that funding terrorism is a reason for them to sever ties with Qatar is not only hypocritical it is laughably obvious that is merely a cover for the real reason for the row. Egypt, while not a supporter of terrorism, is nonetheless entering into a coalition with two countries who are and thus makes itself almost as much of a hypocrite as KSA and UAE.

Houthis And Allies Establish 'Political Coalition' To Govern Yemen

Even as the Houthis are effectively defeating the forces of the Saudi-led coalition who invaded them in 2015 and even as Houthi forces have actually launched a counter-invasion of Saudi Arabia, the Houthis are now making plans for a political reformation as well.

It has been announced by the Houthi leadership that a coalition forming a new “political council” that will govern Yemen and establish a new Constitution is now in the works. The council will be made up of Houthi figures as well as individuals who are part of the forces loyal to former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Another stated goal of the coalition is to ensure the unity of Yemen.

The council has called upon all “non-terrorist” forces in Yemen to join and assist in the unification of the country.

The Saudis are predictably outraged at the prospect that the Houthis and allied forces are not only rejecting their attempt to control them but are doing so successfully. As al-Arabiya reported,

Saudi Arabia’s Council of Ministers on Monday reiterated that the agreement reached between Houthis and followers of ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh to form a political council in Yemen is an obstacle to reach a political agreement to end the suffering of the Yemeni people.

The Cabinet considered it as a flagrant violation of the resolutions of the Arab League, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the United Nations Security Council (Resolution 2216), as well as the Gulf Cooperation Council’s initiative and its executive mechanism and the outcome of the comprehensive national dialogue.

Mercenaries In Yemen Tied To Blackwater According To Media Reports

Receiving scant attention from Western mainstream media outlets except for a few notable exceptions, Americans and many alternative media outlets have remained ignorant to the fact that private mercenaries from Blackwater (aka Academi) appear to have been contracted by the GCC Gulf state feudal monarchies to assist in the military war of terror in Yemen against the Houthi rebels and the embattled Yemeni people.

Still, on December 9, a flurry of reports from media outlets such as Press TV, TeleSur TV, Al-Manar,Al –Bawaba, and Colombia Reports have revealed that around 15 Blackwater mercenaries have been killed in a fierce battles with the Houthi forces since Tuesday.

Al-Masirah, Yemen’s Arabic language website reported that the Commander-In-Chief of the firm’s operation in Yemen, a Mexican national, was killed on Wednesday in the al-Omari district of Ta’izz Province.

Press TV reports that a number of British, French, and Australian advisers and commanders as well as six Colombian soldiers were killed.

In late November of this year, it was reported that around 1,800 former Latin American soldiers who had been recruited by a program once managed Blackwater founder Erik Prince were being trained in the desert of the United Arab Emirates to be used against the Houthis at some point.

It was estimated that about 450 of the soldiers were from Colombia.

The New York Times wrote that “The United Arab Emirates has secretly dispatched hundreds of Colombian mercenaries to Yemen to fight in that country’s raging conflict, adding a volatile new element in a complex proxy war that has drawn in the United States and Iran.”

It's Ok, Everyone, Nusra Says Nusra Won't Hurt Us

Al-Nusra Front has taken to the airwaves with a message for all Westerners and Americans in particular – they really aren’t that bad. And there are no plans to attack Americans. They are just your friendly neighborhood terrorist organization, funded handsomely by the West and the GCC, raping and beheading their way across the Middle East. There’s nothing to worry about so long as the US allows them to continue to rape little girls, cut off heads, impose savage Sharia law, and eat the hearts and livers of the occasional dissident.

This message was brought to you by the feudal monarchy of Qatar and its mouthpiece organization, Al-Jazeera and conducted with a journalist whose past is checkered with a conviction of supporting al-Qaeda.

The alleged leader of al-Nusra Front, Abu Mohammed al-Julani, appeared on al-Jazeera with a setting fit for a king (or Emir *ahem*) to discuss Nusra’s plans for Syria and the West. The man alleging to be Julani and alleging to be the leader of Nusra, despite claiming to be “fearless,” sat with his face covered and his back to the camera. The set was ornately decorated and almost appeared to be some type of palace room or high government building.

Julani reassured Westerners that he had been ordered by another alleged leader, this time of al-Qaeda proper, Ayman al-Zawihiri, not to launch attacks against the West as this would jeopardize the mission in Syria.

A New York Times report cited a US intelligence official as saying that Julani’s statements were merely self-serving propaganda.

NATO Puppets Plan to Invade Syria ... Soon

Reports are now filtering in that preparations for a direct military assault on Syria are being made by Turkey in concert with the Saudis and Qataris. These reports are suggesting that the military offensive will take place within the next few days. Some reports speculate that such action could take place further down the road in late June.

At this moment, Turkish forces are reportedly gathering at the nation’s southern border and Syria’s northern border in a fashion that can signify little except the posturing for military action.

While this article is in no way attempting to make predictions regarding possible military action, to provide dates, or even the hint that these possible attacks will definitively take place, the stage has clearly been set for some time for us to contemplate the possibility of such an attack.

Indeed, in the last few weeks, geopolitical alliances and talks have begun to coalesce so as to indicate that such an attack is not only possible but probable in the near future. After all, the US and NATO have attempted to gin up support for a direct assault on Syria since early on in the crisis when it became apparent that proxy armies of terrorists alone were not going to accomplish regime change.

The plans – at least from Turkey’s side of the fence – appear to be twofold. First, the plan to attack Syria has been part of the NATO agenda from the moment the death squads were routed by Assad’s forces and Turkey has always been a major playing in this regard.

Secondly, Prime Minister Recep Erdoğan’s own governing party has been suffering under a number of scandals, criticisms, and failures over the last several months and, as is the case in every country, a foreign war is more than helpful in diverting the attention of the local population away from domestic concerns. While certainly not the cause, plunging support from the Turkish public is certainly a stick used to prod Erdoğan into further action.

Death Squads Receiving Training in Joint US/Qatar Operation: Report

According to a new report by Reuters, Western-backed death squad fighters operating in Syria are receiving aportion of their training inside Qatar via the Qatari government and the United States.

The unnamed sources of the information reported to Reuters that the training was taking place near Doha, Qatar in between the border of Saudi Arabia and the American al-Udeid Air Base, the largest U.S. Air Base in the Middle East. Al-Udeid is located inside a military zone protected by Qatari special forces.

According to Reuters, “Syrian rebel sources” have reported to the news agency that many of the fighters trained in Qatar belong to the Free Syrian Army, an umbrella group of death squad fanatics passed off as “moderate” by Western governments.

The training, as described by the sources, has been running for close to a year.

Reuters states that the program involves the identification of small groups of jihadists fighting in Syria by the CIA, the relocation of these jihadists to Qatar via Turkey, and the subsequent training in “ambush techniques” by the U.S. and Qatar before the fighters are shipped back in to Syria via Turkey.

Although Reuters admits the training of the death squads in the art of ambush, the news agency attempts to claim that the fighters are in no way trained in IEDs or otherwise more advanced techniques.

While mainstream outlets like Reuters portray the “rebels” being trained at al-Udeid and surrounding locations as “moderate” or, at least, not members of the Islamic State, Reuters is also forced to admit that Qatar is by no means opposed to supporting IS militants in its battle against Assad. Indeed, Reuters states that “A source who works with rebel groups said Qatar had delivered weapons, mostly mortar bombs, to the Islamic Front and some FSA brigades about two months ago and had paid some salaries for Islamic Front groups.”
