The Trump administration caused major consternation amid the pro-Syria community when it announced, in the context of Trump’s executive order on refugees, that it was directing the Pentagon and Department of Defense to begin drawing up a plan to create “safe zones” in Syria under the guise of repatriating refugees that have settled in the United States and other countries. Trump’s plan sounds eerily similar to the many names given to the concept of a “No Fly Zone” in Syria, a plan which will amount to nothing short of war with Syria and most likely Russia if ever implemented.

The terminology of the previous administration has changed several times; from No Fly Zone, to ISIL-Free Zone, to Safe Zone but it always meant the same thing – Libya 2.0.

This is why even more puzzlement appeared with headlines suggesting Russia was willing to go along with the Trump administration plan so long as it provided that the Syrian government is a part of its implementation.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov cautiously stated that “If this is about the people who were forced to leave their homes by the conflict, […] getting their basic needs covered, […] then I think that the idea to create areas within Syria for those internally displaced could be discussed with the UN’s High Commissioner for Refugees and other organizations.”

Mid-week, President Donald Trump announced his intention to create a border wall with Mexico, making good on his incessant campaign rhetoric to “Build A Wall” and even make Mexico pay for it. While no one, including his supporters, realistically believed that Trump would actually make Mexico pay for a wall, Trump has surprised everyone by revealing that he can do just that . . . at least in a sense. One of the ideas being floated to fund the construction of the border wall, among others, is the imposition of a 20% Protective Tariff on all goods coming in from Mexico.

As of yet, the tariff has not been set in stone but both the mainstream and the alternative media are now on fire with debates surrounding the efficacy, dangers, or benefits of protective tariffs and “protectionism.” Yet much of the hysteria over tariffs coming from both mainstream and alternative media outlets is nothing more than the propaganda of globalization and “Free Trade” that has been drilled into the heads of Americans for years by government, international corporations, Wall Street, the mainstream media, and a host of questionable “think tanks” and organizations so that they will accept lower living standards, lower wages, and the domination of society by corporate oligarchs.

While the question of illegal immigration and border walls are an important one – it is also important to maintain a proper understanding of tariffs, protectionism, Free Trade, and the risks and benefits of these policies in the real world.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: It's Time To Legalize Medical Marijuana In South Carolina

As 2017 rolls around, the South Carolina legislature will soon be considering a proposal to legalize medical marijuana in a very controlled and limited fashion.

The new bill, being labeled the Compassionate Care Act by supporters, would provide access to medical marijuana for patients suffering from specific diseases listed in the bill. The legislation would also provide for the creation of a review board and strict guidelines for access, such as a limit to no more than two ounces every two weeks.

We should all express our respect and gratitude for the individuals who wrote and submitted this bill in order to provide support and relief to so many people in South Carolina suffering from incredibly painful and life-restricting diseases. We should also do whatever is in our power to ensure that this bill passes by calling our representatives and expressing support.

It is time for South Carolina to move into the 21st century in regard to its drug policy, even if it has to tip-toe in order to get there. It is absolutely shameful that, in a country that prides itself on freedom, Americans are hunted down and locked into a cage simply because they are in possession of a plant.

I should add that this plant, for which so many people have been imprisoned, has never caused a single death, is not addictive and has been repeatedly demonstrated to have extraordinary amounts of benefit to health. It’s time to finally bring an end to the war on drugs.

Trump Expected To Sign Orders For "Safe Zone" In Syria According To Reports

President Donald Trump is expected to sign yet another Executive Order regarding his plan to suspend the U.S.’s “refugee” program and a tightening of procedures for vetting individuals entering the United States under a refugee visa. Few but the most ardent open immigration proponent against such a policy.

However, tucked away in the document, according to mainstream news sources like Reuters and Newsweek, is a provision to create “safe zones” in Syria.

As Julia Edwards Ashley and Matt Spetalnick of Reuters summarized,

President Donald Trump is expected to order the Pentagon and the State Department in coming days to craft a plan for setting up “safe zones” for refugees in Syria, according to a document seen by Reuters on Wednesday, a move that could risk escalation of U.S. military involvement in Syria’s civil war. 

The draft executive order awaiting Trump's signature signaled the new administration may be preparing a step that his predecessor Barack Obama long resisted, fearing the potential for being pulled deeper into the bloody conflict and the threat of clashes between U.S. and Russian warplanes over Syria. 

"The Secretary of State, in conjunction with the Secretary of Defense, is directed within 90 days of the date of this order to produce a plan to provide safe areas in Syria and in the surrounding region in which Syrian nationals displaced from their homeland can await firm settlement, such as repatriation or potential third-country resettlement," the draft order said. 

Trump Administration To Supply Saudis, Kuwait With $1.85 Billion In Arms

While candidate Trump was rather harsh on the terrorist financing Neanderthal government of Saudi Arabia, President Trump doesn’t seem as if he is going to be as tough. This is because, on Monday, January 23, the U.S. State Department announced the first arm sales of the Trump administration. In this announcement, it was revealed that $1.85 billion worth of material will be sold to both Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Approval of the arms deal must be approved by Congress before actually taking place.

As the Washington Post writes,

The sales, once finalized, will send $525 million in observation balloons to Saudi Arabia; $400 million in helicopter gunship parts and air-to-air missiles to Kuwait; and $400 million in maintenance support for Britain’s fleet of C-17 cargo jets. On Thursday, the day before Trump’s inauguration, the State Department notified Congress it was prepared to sell Kenya $418 million in propeller-driven close air support aircraft and their accompanying weapons but only publicly announced the deal Monday. The awkward-looking aircraft, known as the Air Tractor 802L, will likely be used by Kenyan forces to hunt the terrorist group al-Shabab.

This is despite the fact that the Saudis are launching a horrific war against Houthi rebels in Yemen where the Saudi aerial bombing campaign has killed a staggering number of civilians and has essentially destroyed most of the country. The Saudis have virtually reduced Yemen back to the Stone Age and created one of the worst humanitarian catastrophes in the world, even rivaling the crisis in Syria, which the Saudis have also been instrumental in creating.

In the first week of the Trump administration, The Donald has issued a flurry of executive orders, many of them surprisingly positive. Ending the TPP, U.S. support for abortion overseas, and a planned “renegotiation” of NAFTA have all brought praise from a number of corners. However, Trump’s recent order renewing the construction of the DAPL pipeline (Dakota Access Pipeline) as well as the Keystone XL (Trans-Canada Pipeline) has not been well-received except within pro-big business and Big Oil circles.

And for good reason.

To be clear, while many protesters have opposed both pipelines on the basis of man-made CO2- based “climate change” fears, there are more important aspects to the pipeline and its construction than phantoms of global warming/cooling invented by elitist think tanks and governments for the purposes of returning the world’s people to impoverished living standards under the guise of protecting the earth (at vastly reduced numbers of course). On the other side of the fence, most of the proponents of the pipelines have supported the project because they see corporations as “jobs” and “energy independence;” property rights, drinking water, and the environment be damned. For many of them, no amount of environmental damage is worth being concerned about.

Realistically, however, the United States and the rest of the world need energy and that, for now at least, means oil. So while acknowledging the necessity of oil to our economy and survival as it stands, we must also acknowledge that there instances in which environmental risk or the loss of citizen’s rights should prevent certain projects from moving forward.

MSM Claims Report Blames Assad Personally For Chemical Weapons Despite JIM Denial

It seems that neither the U.S. State Department nor the corporate media will give up on the incessant claims of the Syrian government’s alleged use of “chemical weapons” in Syria. This is, of course, despite having no evidence to back up their claims of Assad’s guilt. As usual, however, that hasn’t stopped the U.S. government or Reuters from promoting the claims as absolute truth as evidenced by the latest report by Reuters entitled “Assad Linked To Syrian Chemical Attacks For First Time.”

In this article, Reuters attempts to paint a picture that not only lays the blame for chemical weapons attacks at the feet of Assad, but also claims that the investigators have labeled Assad himself as personally responsible for them. Yet there are a number of problems with the article. First, it incorrectly assumes that the U.N. report referenced from 2016 is accurate. Second, it claims that the report labels Assad as personally responsible despite denials from the actual committee producing it that a list has even been compiled.

Trump Cuts Funding For Abortions Overseas; Media, Pro-Abortion Activists Go Crazy

Amid a flurry of both praise and criticism, President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday, January 23, which will prevent international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) who perform abortions from receiving funds from the U.S. government.

The ban had originally been in place first during the Reagan administration and has since gone through a back and forth period whenever Republican and Democratic administrations assumed the office of the Presidency. Republicans have tended to implement the ban while Democrats have tended to rescind it.

"The President, it's no secret, has made it very clear that he's a pro-life president," White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said. "He wants to stand up for all Americans, including the unborn, and I think the reinstatement of this policy is not just something that echoes that value, but respects taxpayer funding as well."

Amid catcalls of “The Patriarchy!” coming from many pro-abortion commentators, Trump signed the order alongside a table full of men, apparently ignoring a Constitutional amendment known only to feminists requiring a matriarchal presence on all official documents.

Pro abortion activists, NGOs (especially those focused on abortion and sterilization), and much of the mainstream press of the “leftist” variety are incensed by Trump’s decision.

While government funds did not directly go to fund abortions they were given to organizations for other services, thereby freeing up funds for abortions.

Alleged U.S., Russian Cooperation Called Into Question - Is Trump Also Hostile To Assad?

After only a few days in office and a mysterious drone strike in Yemen, many are wondering just what President Donald Trump’s policy on Syria might be. After all, throughout the campaign, Trump hinted around at a stronger relationship with Russia and a realization that Assad was not only the better option but a major force for fighting terror in the region. This was clearly a good sign.

However, days after Trump has taken office, it is still unclear as to just what position Trump is going to take in regards to both Syria and Russia.

For instance, at around 8pm on January 23, reports began circulating in both the Russian and American press suggesting that Russia and the United States had just completed their first joint airstrikes against ISIS in Syria. One such report came from the Associated Press and echoed what was being reported by much of the rest of American media. It read,

The Russian military says its warplanes have flown a joint mission in Syria against the Islamic State group together with the U.S.-led coalition. 

If confirmed by Washington, the mission would represent the first coordinated action against IS by Russia and the U.S.-led coalition. Russia has pushed for such cooperation in the past, but Barack Obama's administration had refused. 

New U.S. President Donald Trump has called for joint efforts with Russia against IS.
The Russian Defense Ministry said its forces in Syria had received coordinates of IS targets near al-Bab on Sunday "from the U.S. side via hotline with the international coalition headquarters."

Skittles Highway Spill Reveals Feed Run To Cattle Lot

A recent news story, no doubt designed to capture the attention of people wanting light and weird news, has accidentally revealed yet another disgusting and unpleasant fact about the American food system.

The case took off when a Wisconsin Sheriff posted on Facebook that “hundreds of thousands of Skittles” had fallen off a truck and spilled on a highway. Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt joked that it would be difficult to taste the rainbow in its entirety.

He also posted that the Skittles were on their way to become cattle feed.

Proving why it is one of the top mainstream news agencies, CNN promptly jumped on the story since clearly it was the most important news of the day. But reporting the story did reveal something that most Americans probably didn’t know: i.e., that Skittles are actually used for cattle feed.

To add an additional twist to the story, Mars Incorporated, the maker of Skittles, said it did not know how the Skittles in question came to be used for animal feed since they were coming from a factory that doesn’t sell unused products for that purpose.

Mars does, however, sell unused candy and unused ingredients to industrial agricultural processors that then incorporate them with other material which will be fed to animals.

On January 23, 2017 President Donald Trump made clear that the United States is no longer pursuing the horrific trade pact known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). In an Executive Order, Trump officially abandoned and disbanded the TPP which the Obama administration, Congressional hacks, Wall Street, and major corporations had worked for eight years to solidify.

In so doing, Trump has moved forward with a policy that we have agitated for since the creation of the TPP. Only a few days into his administration, Trump has met one of demands a stated in the article platform "A Real New Deal For America - 43 Points." 

We congratulate President Trump on his decision to abandon the TPP. We also encourage him to move forward in abandoning NAFTA, CAFTA, GATT, and the various bilateral Chinese trade agreements that have done so much damage to the American jobs market. We also encourage him to consider removing the United States from the World Trade Organization.

We must, as Americans, now realize that the fight is nowhere near being over. But we have made progress. We must continue to push for an end to "Free Trade" and for the implementation of the rest of our demands.

On January 23, 2017 President Donald Trump made clear that the United States is no longer pursuing the horrific trade pact known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). In an Executive Order, Trump officially abandoned and disbanded the TPP which the Obama administration, Congressional hacks, Wall Street, and major corporations had worked for eight years to solidify.

Much of the text of the TPP was unknown to American citizens since it was lobbied and created in secret. However, leaked sections of the document revealed a plan to not only “remove barriers on trade” which, in reality, is political speak for NAFTA on steroids and a massive sucking sound of American jobs fleeing across the Pacific, but also that the TPP contained a number of frightening points that would have allowed for the corporate domination of the American regulatory system, copyright law, and the internet as well as the American food supply.

As Brett Redmayne-Tidley wrote for Activist Post in April, 2016,

If Americans don’t stop TPP corporations will literally be able to circumvent the existing laws of the EPA, FDA, trade unions, collective bargaining agreements, patent protections, banking regulations and many other American regulations and rights. All will be negated solely by the arbitrary diktats of corporations. This treason is being currently and secretly included in the language of the TPP treaty here in San Diego.

The meal above was one of the most enjoyable meals I’ve made in a long time. It was actually mouth-watering and surprisingly filling. I finally tried my hand at a quick vegan and grain-free, nutrient-dense meal and it was so enjoyable I just had to share it. You won’t find this at your typical restaurant.

The warm and warming vegan curry is great for a quick, winter meal that won’t cause bloat and is easy to clean up afterward. This easy-to-prepare dinner produced energy that lasted far into the evening – it was a pick-me-up. Later in the evening I was hungry and was fine after a light, nutritious snack.

This vegan curry is dairy-free, grain-free, gluten-free, Paleo, sugar-free and egg-free.

What you need – Serves 2 – (one bowl each):

• Fresh Spinach
• 1 Red Pepper
• 1/2 Red Onion
• Cilantro (optional topping)
• Chopped mushroom of choice (I chose Portobello)

Trump Announces New "Missile Defense System" Against Iran And North Korea

Only minutes after being sworn in to office, President Donald Trump announced that his administration will develop a “state of the art” missile defense system to protect Americans against attacks from North Korea and Iran.

The announcement was posted minutes after the inauguration on the White House website. The announcement did not provide details as to how the new weapons “defense system” would be different from the systems already being developed, their cost, or how and when they would be deployed.

While ensuring that Americans are protected from any and all threats is the legitimate duty of a President, protections against non-existent threats are questionable at best and provocations are incredibly worrisome. Remember, both Bush and Obama’s “missile defense system,” allegedly designed to protect Americans from Iranian missile attacks were actually designed to surround Russia and act as an elimination of the ability to retaliate. These missile systems have long been a concern for Russia and a source of tension in U.S. – Russian relations.

While the North Korean missile defense system is more logically justified and possibly even warranted, considering the American interests and presence in South Korea, the Iranian defense shield is aimed at a non-existent threat. The Iranians have not shown any desire to act aggressively toward the United States and has actually led the fight against international terrorism along with Russia and Syria. The Iranians do not have a nuclear weapon nor do they even have the capability to produce one.

Trump’s rhetoric regarding Iran on the campaign trail was hawkish to say the least. He has been highly critical of the Iran-nuclear deal (which Iran should never have had to sign to begin with) and suggested that he would “re-negotiate” a better deal. Trump’s close connections with Israel are also highly concerning, particularly when the issue involves foreign policy in the Middle East.

In a surprise revelation, U.S. Representative from Hawaii, Tulsi Gabbard, has embarked upon an unannounced visit to Syria for a “fact-finding trip . . . to promote and work for peace.” Gabbard did not announce her trip publicly for obvious safety and security reasons. However, now that the news is out, the Western corporate press is reacting in apoplectic rage at her audacity to act in a manner unapproved by the establishment.

These press outlets have attacked her for not giving “advance notice” to Democratic Party leadership, for not yet disclosing who funded the trip, and for possibly meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. [We are sure the same reaction would be provided if she had traveled to Israel, right?] Gabbard has even been maligned as the GOP’s favorite Democrat, a wholly unfair label but one ironically hoisted upon her because of her opposition to international destabilization and imperialist wars.

What her office did say in regards to the trip was that, “She felt it was important to meet with a number of individuals and groups including religious leaders, humanitarian workers, refugees and government and community leaders.”

As Congress now debates the repeal of Obamacare/ACA, it is important to understand what is actually being discussed, the options being put forth, and what we, the American people, actually want. For those of us who want to see a system of Universal Healthcare where every American has access to at least the basic medical available, the current debate has many nuances.

First, it is clear that the ACA must be done away with. Despite what Obama cultists may claim, the ACA is not universal healthcare. Instead, it is a massive bailout for insurance companies, rationing of care, and the implementation of austerity under left cover. It has hurt millions of people by draining money out of their pockets for the crime of being too poor to purchase the rationed insurance from a private company at inflated rates. For the middle class, it has been a major inconvenience. To working and poor America, it has been a disaster.

That being said, we cannot simply return to the previous system where only the wealthy and middle class could obtain adequate healthcare and where the insurance companies simply ran a rationing board of their own, albeit at a smaller scale than what the ACA allows.

So what, exactly, should be we be aiming for?

BBC Journalist Admits MSM 'Journalist' Bilal Abdul Kareem 'Works With al-Qaeda'

Ever since the beginning of the crisis in Syria, the Western corporate media has cited various “activists” inside the country which conveniently all reported back towing the desired propaganda of the State Department. But the word “activists” could always simply be translated to mean “terrorists” since the “activists” were actually gun-toting fighters funded, organized, and directed by the West, NATO, GCC, and Israel.

Today, the same deceptive propaganda continues from mainstream outlets with the addition of the new “journalists” being cited but who are yet again just another name for terrorists and terrorist supporters. One such “journalist” repeatedly cited by CNN and many other corporate outlets in the West is Bilal Abdul Kareem, an American born terrorist sympathizer who has been touted as a reliable source on the ground for Western propaganda outlets.

For an in-depth look at Kareem, I would recommend reading Ben Norton’s excellent article for Alternet, entitled, “Bilal Abdul Kareem, Prominent U.S. ‘Journalist’ In Syria, Serves As Mouthpiece For Violent Extremists.”

As Norton points out, Kareem himself is an extremist, having promoting “preachers” who have openly fanned sectarianism by denouncing Shia Muslims and calling for the destruction of Alawites. He has openly opposed even the appearance of democracy in Syria, laughably claiming that the Syrian people are more familiar with Sharia rule than rational governance. When I first visited Poland in February 2016, President Andrzej Duda was newly elected and yet, on the plane towards Warsaw, I grabbed a local newspaper and was stunned by the amount of opposition and criticism this fresh president had (as per the newspaper of course)!! Knowing a lot of sincere Poles, who were very enthusiastic and hopeful about their newly elected President (who enjoyed great amount of trust and respect among his people), I knew that it is time to throw this newspaper in the garbage and stop using “Turkish Airlines” . Poland was the first European Nation to show an awakening in regards to internal, regional and international matters in August 2015 when choosing “Law and Justice Party” for parliament majority. Poland was as well the first European Nation (under communism) to shift totally from dictatorship towards democracy in 1989. Same accusations were raised during and after both events...

If upholding National values, honoring national History and being RIGHTeous earns you the “right Wing” tag, so be it. The same tendencies were observed across Europe during my last December visit, and the losers always accused the winners of extremism, intolerance and phobia. Well no problem, as long as YOU are RIGHT.

Many “experts” and “observers”, as the garbage newspaper, rained us with news of a Europe shifting towards the “right” in order to create a fear factor of uncertainty. But the shift is not really towards the Right vs the Left, the shift is towards the “right” vs the “wrong”. It is not about ideologies or political agendas and choices; the shift is simply for Peace, for Homeland, for Truth and for the future. The shift in Europe is not about persons and parties, it is about Values and Identity. The biggest disappointment the European public had was the stacks of lies and deception their establishments and its Medias put them through both internally and in foreign policies. And we in Syria, have suffered a lot for the past 5 years due to these deceiving policies.

Will NATO’s “Operation Atlantic Resolve” Be The Trigger For WW3 With Russia?

As concern over the last week of Obama’s tenure as President continues to mount and as tensions with Russia edge upwards more and more by the day, the United States and NATO are doing everything they can to signal that they are ready and willing for World War Three. After months of falsely accusing the Russian government of “war crimes,” “crimes against humanity,” and empire expansion simply for killing Western-backed terrorists in Syria, the U.S. government and corporate media followed up with months more of claims of “Russian hacking” even insinuating that the Russians “hacked the U.S. elections.” This was, of course, after over a year of claiming Russia shot down civilian air liners, invaded Ukraine, imprisons gays, and has no rights for women.

Over the course of the crisis in Ukraine, the U.S. has repeatedly moved troops into threatening positions close to the Russian border. Now, however, one of the biggest pushes yet has materialized in Eastern Europe, right on Russia’s doorstep in Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Hungary, and Bulgaria. Dubbed, Operation Atlantic Resolve, the massive NATO troop deployment is an obvious act of troop placement in order to prepare for an actual ground assault on Russia itself. At best, it is an incredibly foolish act of bullying and intimidation. At worst, it is preparation for a nuclear holocaust.

As the International Business Times summarizes

US tanks and armoured vehicles along with over 3,000 US soldiers begin arriving in Poland on Thursday, (12 January). The deployment, which falls under Operation Atlantic Resolve, is the largest exercise of US troops in Europe in decades.

We are a sacred country, yes.

Because of us, because of our beliefs only and because of what our history is, our heritage, our ancestors are gift to us and not the Umayyad ancestors or the Abbasid, we are way older than this, way older than this.

The Ummayyad and Abbasid were dark eras, were dark times for Syria, we make a lot bad and we … you don’t know that we have created alphabet, you don’t know … so we have, we have enough to come out of it.

I’m worried about you, you are not willing to learn from us, you are fighting us, killing us, suffocating us. 

You will not leave anything to learn from. 

Today on your TVs, your politicians, your media, your journalists are lying bluntly and feel happy about it. 

What you could say on American TV today, you couldn’t have said it 10 years ago or 20 years ago, so you are more comfortable with lying, with conspiring, you’re are more comfortable in describing the others as numbers, as objects, as use, not as people and souls, not as lives. 

This is dangerous for you, we appreciate our lives, the more we lose people we appreciate the life we lost and the life we have, and we make sure that the lives that we lost are honoured.
