The police state has struck again – this time in the state of Arkansas. In what has become an increasing trend across the country, the natural pain killer, stress reliever and recovery assistant known as Kratom has been added to the list of Schedule 1 narcotics by the Arkansas Department of Health. Arkansas is now the sixth state to ban the plant along with Alabama, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Vermont and Indiana.

Kratom, aka mitragyna speciosa, is not an opiate but functions in a similar manner, i.e. attaching to activating opoid receptors. The substance has been shown to alleviate chronic pain and anxiety as well as aid in overcoming addiction despite its own “euphoric effects.”

Studies in mice have actually demonstrated impressive results in overcoming addiction to cocaine. Many Kratom users have also sung the plant’s praises in regards to heroin addiction. Kratom users claim that the substance is an excellent substitute for prescription pain medication as well as the addiction that comes with prescribed opiates.

In an interview with an Arkansas Kratom user going by the name of Lisa, she related her own experience of liberation from the tyranny of the medical system and addiction to prescription medication as a result of using Kratom.

The fibromyalgia sufferer states,

When I heard they’d banned it and the way they banned it, I literally broke down in tears. I don’t want to go back to pain medication, and I won’t go back to pain medication. But now that it’s illegal, it’s hard to get. Nobody will send it here because they don’t want to get in trouble, which I totally understand. The way they went about doing it was so underhanded.
When I take opiates for my pain, it doesn’t even really help with the pain. It just makes me not care about the pain. But when it comes back, it comes back 10 times worse. Therefore you have to take more and more opiates to make it go away. With Kratom, it literally makes the pain go away. When you take Kratom, you don’t get the high feeling. You’re just normal.
I’ve seen stories in [online] groups that break my heart – because people are talking about having to go back to the streets — going back to heroin, going back to the things that they came off of … . Honestly, I will find a way. I will continue to use Kratom. I don’t know how, but I will. I can’t go back to pain medication that has almost cost me good jobs. There’s something natural that helps me, and they took it away overnight. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do without it.

Lisa’s story is reminiscent of so many others who found Kratom to be a source of relief. Unfortunately, the Arkansas ban is also reminiscent of many stories where American citizens who are supposed to live in the freest country in the world find substances natural or otherwise that improve their health or the quality of their life are soon threatened with a prison cell for possessing them.

Indeed, never does a good thing arise without a bureaucratic “board,” a law enforcement “official” or other “expert” arriving to ban, criminalize and eliminate it.

Arkansas is just the latest in a stream of state governments who are determined to prevent the United States from moving in a direction toward individual liberty and doing everything in their power to ensure that Americans continue to suffer under a ridiculous drug war and medical dictatorship.
