Will South Carolina Leave The Stone Age And Allow Medical Marijuana?

Will South Carolina Leave Stone Age and Allow Medical Marijuana?Brandon Turbeville
October 3, 2018

As the rest of the country moves forward without it, some residents of South Carolina are starting to believe that marijuana may be legalized in the state by 2019. Medical marijuana that is.

For many who live in South Carolina, the idea that legalized marijuana in any form would ever exist in the state was a pipe dream that people would be quick to scoff at. However, that was before the Compassionate Care Act, a medical cannabis bill, made it all the way to the floor of the State House and Senate in 2018.

As is typical, the legislative session ended before it could be voted on, but some advocates believe they may have the votes from politicians they need to pass it in 2019.

“People understand that it is inhumane to withhold from people medicine that can really help them,” state senator, and founder of the Compassionate Care Act, Tom Davis said.

Even the former Executive Director of the South Carolina Sheriff’s Association has changed his tune regarding the benefits of medical marijuana.

What is not surprising, however, is that a Winthrop poll reported that 78% of people in South Carolina believe medical marijuana should be legal.

South Carolina has a history of holding out on rights despite the people of the state openly desiring them. The very fact that CBD is legal in South Carolina is amazing in and of itself.

Still, South Carolinians are hopeful that the state ends its grossly unproductive police state war against a harmless plant and focuses on other issues such as violent crime, crumbling infrastructure, the worst education system in the country, or ridiculously low wages.

Benefits Of CBD And Questions You Should Ask Before Buying

Brandon Turbeville

October 3, 2018

As America continues to wage its disastrous war on drugs, the question of whether or not a human being living in a supposedly free society has the right to consume plants of their choice continues to be argued in every state in the nation.

However, after decades and decades of fighting for the most basic rights, Americans (at least at the state level) are now able to access CBD. Still, tragic ignorance on the part of government, especially law enforcement, as well as the general public has resulted in many Americans still being unable to access the medicine they desperately need if that medicine is or is derived from a virtually harmless plant.

That ignorance stems from nearly a hundred years of horrific propaganda drilled into the minds of American citizens every day. As a result, many Americans cannot distinguish between CBD and THC, much less understand just how CBD benefits health, the difference in CBD products, or how to consume it.

What’s It Good For?

Because of the disastrous war on drugs, research into the benefits of CBD has not taken off to the levels necessary to fully understand the potential this substances holds for healing. However, just a few benefits of CBD are that it can:

  • Improve the symptoms of schizophrenia
  • Fight cancer
  • Reduce anxiety and depression
  • Relieve pain
  • Reduces risk of diabetes
  • Act as an acne treatment
  • Helps treat and reduce seizures and other neurological disorders
  • Helps reduce nausea
  • Helps reduce the symptoms of multiple sclerosis

Canada Second Nation To Decriminalize Marijuana After Uruguay

Canada Decriminalize Marijuana After UruguayBrandon Turbeville
Natural Blaze
June 23, 2018

Canada is now tiptoeing into the 21st century with the recent passage of a marijuana legalization bill. The new legislation, known as the Cannabis Act (C-45), has now made Canada the second nation to legalize recreational marijuana in the world after Uruguay.
The Cannabis Act passed in the Canadian Senate 52 to 29.
But while many are hailing the new law, it must be kept in mind that there is a vast difference between legalization and decriminalization, the latter being the most desirable since the former often involves strict controls. While decriminalization means that no laws will be passed to restrict the possession, production, or consumption of the plant, legalization works on the premise that the individual has not the right to consume what they choose but that the government is responsible for designating that consumption as a privilege.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took to Twitter to emphasize that difference when he said, “It’s been too easy for our kids to get marijuana – and for criminals to reap the profits. Today, we change that. Our plant to legalize and regulate marijuana just passed the Senate.”
Still, the move is undeniably a major step in the right direction.
Once the legislation goes into effect, Canadian adults over 18 years of age will no longer be arrested and thrown into cages for possessing less than 30 grams of marijuana in public.
However, marijuana purchases must be made through government-approved vendors that themselves will be regulated by the Federal government and the states and provinces.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta Schools Jeff Sessions On Medical Marijuana And Opioids

Dr. Sanjay Gupta Schools Jeff Sessions on Medical Marijuana and OpioidsBrandon Turbeville
April 25, 2018

In the latest demonstration that free access to marijuana in a supposedly free society is an idea whose time has come, none other than CNN’s Sanjay Gupta, the notoriously biased news organization’s Chief Medical Correspondent, has written an op-ed in the form of an open letter to US Attorney General Jeff Sessions, asking that Sessions to open his mind to the fact that marijuana is a powerful medicine and possible tool for easing the opioid epidemic.

Gupta acknowledged his own ignorance related to medical marijuana only a few short years ago and wrote of how he came to change his mind. Gupta wrote of the number of stories and cases he personally witnessed where marijuana provided relief to a number of health problems as well as growing evidence that marijuana could be one more solution to the opioid crisis.

In his article, “Dr. Sanjay Gupta To Jeff Sessions: Medical Marijuana Could Save Many Addicted To Opioids,” Gupta writes,

Not only can cannabis work for a variety of conditions such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and pain, sometimes, it is the only thing that works. I changed my mind, and I am certain you can, as well. It is time for safe and regulated medical marijuana to be made available nationally. I realize this is an unconventional way to reach you, but your office declined numerous requests for an interview, and as a journalist, a doctor and a citizen, I felt it imperative to make sure you had access to our findings.
Mr. Sessions, there is an added urgency, as we are in the middle of a deadly opioid epidemic that has been described as the worst self-inflicted epidemic in the history of our country.

Patrick Stewart Stands Up For Boy Refused Cannabis For 30 Seizures A Day

Patrick Stewart Relies on Medical Cannabis Himself – the Star Trek Actor Stands With Alfie Dingley

Great Britain is proving just how great it is, and it is using a six-year-old-boy to do it. Proving that the Western world is a symbol of oppression, not freedom, the UK Home Office has rejected a plea from Alfie Dingley’s family and even MPs to allow Alfie access to cannabis to treat a rare form of childhood epilepsy that can cause up to 30 seizures a day and numerous hospital visits.

Of course, one could ask the obvious question: Why does anyone have to plea to use a plant in a country that never shuts up about how free it is?

For the Dingleys, there simply isn’t 200 years worth of waiting while the dying British Empire is dragged, kicking and screaming into the 21st Century, or any century for that matter. That is why the Dingleys did the only thing they could do for their child – leave the UK and travel to the Netherlands where they could access medical cannabis.

The results aren’t that surprising – Alfie’s seizures were dramatically reduced even at times going more than three weeks without having a seizure.

Unfortunately for them, without medical insurance, the treatments were too expensive so they were forced to return to the UK where harmless plants result in jail.

Still, the Home Office is denying the family access to marijuana because “rules is rules” and “only government and the medical industry can make decisions on health.”

But since marijuana is overwhelmingly harmless, non-addictive, beneficial and most reasonable people understand it to be just another plant, the Home Office had to come up with an excuse to cover up the connections between the drug war, pharmaceutical industry and police state.

Tennessee Inches Toward Medical Marijuana Legalization

Tennessee legalizationBrandon Turbeville
March 9, 2018

After years of denying citizens even the lip service to their basic rights, the Tennessee legislature has moved one small step forward toward making one form of medical marijuana legal.

The new bill HB 1749 is no standard bearer for freedom, but at least it’s a baby step in the right direction.

Unfortunately, the bill faces an uphill battle with law enforcement basically goosestepping to the capitol, and sieg heiling the Drug War alongside their friends in the prosecutor’s office.

Indeed, the congressional committee heard from both traditionally freedom-crushing institutions who were unsurprisingly opposed to any form of medical marijuana. A few brave souls testified in favor of the proposal although their testimony was given less weight by the political class and the corporate media largely due to the fact that their occupations did not involve throwing peaceful people into cages over plants.

Still, the panel of the Committee was left evenly divided until House Speaker, Beth Harwell, broke the tie in support of medical marijuana.

Harwell’s decision to support medical cannabis was most likely influenced by the fact that her sister is a resident of Colorado and uses it to manage her pain.

Given the fact that her sister is not known to be an ax murderer, a school shooter, or a homeless drug addict begging for pennies on the street, it probably seemed pretty obvious to House Speaker Harwell that marijuana wasn’t as dangerous as her colleagues, who are known to be microphones for corporations and law enforcement, have pretended it to be.

The 4-3 vote now means that the bill will be heard by the full Criminal Justice Committee. Sponsor of the bill, Jeremy Faison, stated,
The more you expose those lies that have brought to us since the 1930s, eventually you can finally get through to somebody.
The bill would allow patients suffering from Lou Gehrig’s disease, PTSD, HIV AIDS and Hepatitis C, to obtain cards and buy cannabis from licensed dispensaries. The bill would only allow the sale of cannabis oil and the level of THC would be limited.

The bill will have to go through at least two committees before it reaches the House floor, moves onto the Senate and finally the Governor’s office.

Ohio Gov. Candidate Dennis Kucinich Goes All In For Marijuana In Ohio

March 8, 2018

Ohio candidate for Governor, former Congressman Dennis Kucinich, stopped by the Cleveland School of Cannabis today to announce his marijuana policy should he become the Governor of Ohio in 2018. As one might suspect from Kucinich’s history and by the location he chose to make his announcement, Kucinich’s marijuana platform is probably the most impressive ever put forward by a serious contender for the office.

In his short statement, Kucinich announced that he and his running mate, Tara L. Samples, would expand Ohio’s medical marijuana law while at the same time decriminalizing the possession and use of marijuana for adults over the age of 21. Kucinich stated that he would like to see marijuana regulated in a similar way to that which alcohol and alcohol sales are overseen in the state.

Linking marijuana policy to the opioid epidemic as a proven remedy (not an accessory), Kucinich also wants to see tax revenue from weed to be funneled back into communities, particularly those that have been so heavily devastated by the disastrous drug war. Kucinich also wants Ohio to begin growing industrial hemp as well as allowing medical marijuana patients to grow marijuana at home.

Kucinich pointed out that any regulation of marijuana should be focused on the health and safety of the patients, consumers, and citizens and not special interests, most likely hinting at the fact that Corporate America is already attempting to not only cash in on the growing marijuana market but also to monopolize it nationwide.

Kucinich spoke after a number of individuals who told their stories of how medical marijuana had improved their lives and the lives of those close to them.

Trump’s HHS Secretary Literally Just Denied Existence Of Medical Marijuana

March 5, 2018

As U.S. President, Donald Trump, suggests the death penalty for drug dealers, Attorney General Jeff “Mr. Magoo” Sessions, cracks down on the Constitution and scary plants, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary, Alex Azar, traveled to Kettering, OH to make the profound statement that,
There really is no such thing as medical marijuana.
The statement came during his press conference on opioids in Kettering where he was promoting a $750 million dollar public-private partnership to allegedly create a new type of pain killer/pain therapy that are not opioids.

But his statement that medical marijuana does not exist would come as news to the large portion of people who all ready use it, and even the state of Ohio itself that is issuing state licenses to build medical marijuana cultivation facilities such as the one in Yellow Springs.

His reasoning, of course, is that the FDA has yet to approve any use of marijuana; therefore, if the FDA hasn’t approved it – it doesn’t exist.

Instead of allowing Americans their right to access plants, Azar stated that “over $750 million dollars just in 2019 alone is going to be dedicated towards the National Institutes of Health working in public-private partnership to try and develop the next generation of pain therapies that are not opioids.”

New Study Shows Cannabis Kills Leukemia Cells

A new study has confirmed yet another positive use for cannabis. A new study has revealed that cannabinoids can successfully kill leukemia cells.

Cannabis has long been known as having the ability to kill cancer, but the new revelation regarding leukemia is important because the disease is a cancer of bone marrow and other blood forming organs.

The study which was led by Dr. Wailiu at St. George’s University of London in the UK. The team studied cancer cells and tested a variety of combinations of chemotherapy drugs and cannabinoids in order to find the most effective grouping.

The test was designed to discover not only the effect of cannabinoids on leukemia, but whether or not the order that the chemicals were given would result in any difference of results or success rates.

What they found was that cannabidiol and THC killed leukemia cells when they were used alone. Even more so when used together, their potency was significantly improved.

The study showed that a dose of chemotherapy which was followed by cannabinoids improved the results against the leukemia cells.

Using chemotherapy and cannabinoids gave better results than chemotherapy alone or than the combination of cannabidiol and THC. But the increased positive results were only seen if chemotherapy was given first before the cannabinoids. Thus, the researchers found that the order in which the chemicals were administered did have an effect on the overall outcome.

CBD Can Improve Schizophrenia Symptoms, Study Finds

As the DEA continues to label marijuana and even the non-psychoactive cannabidiol oil (CBD) as being the same as heroin in terms of its health effects, addictive qualities and side effects, the real world also continues to exist outside of the walls of Washington, D.C. and mindless drug war proponents.

As jackboots continue to march on so does science and public opinion. Nearly every day a new marijuana-related potential cure appears on the scene. Whether its cancer or multiple sclerosis, the humble plant is offering to cure and relieve a plethora of diseases if the police state and bureaucrats would just get the hell out of the way.

The latest in a long line of diseases that could potentially be cured by marijuana is schizophrenia. Although affecting only about 1.1 percent of the American population, that small percentage translate to about 3.5 million people.

The symptoms of schizophrenia range from life-disrupting to completely debilitating. Cognitive symptoms are a major symptom of schizophrenia that involve comprehension, concentration and decision making.

Currently available medication does tend to be successful in treating hallucinations and delusions, but the cognitive aspects as well as those such as reduced speaking, blunted feelings and reduced social interaction are much less effectively treated. On top of that, antipsychotic medication has a wide range of side effects.

A new study, however, conducted by a team of researchers from the Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute in New South Wales, Australia and published in the journal Nature reveal findings that suggest that CBD may be able to treat some of the symptoms of schizophrenia that are not effectively treated by existing pharmaceutical medications.

9 States With Marijuana Legalization On The Ballot

September 26, 2016

While the November 2016 elections are clearly nothing to look forward to, there are some potential bright spots. The United States appears to be gradually coming out of its incredibly ridiculous War on Drugs psychosis as more and more Americans realize the counter-productive and oppressive nature of America’s drug policy.

Nowhere is this more evident then in the recent victories for marijuana that have taken place across the country. Most of these victories pertain to medical marijuana but some have also been recreational.

Now, nine states will have on their ballot, questions regarding some form of marijuana legalization. While there are often many nuances and important details regarding marijuana legalization, plebiscites assuming that the law does not cloak some other police state measure or corporate monopoly, it’s important for all people of good will to come out and support efforts to legalize marijuana even if they are only a minute step in the right direction.

Below is a list of states that will be deciding the popular vote whether or not to legalize marijuana or not in some capacity on November 8th.

The More You Know

September 11, 2016

It's been 80 years since the release of Reefer Madness. Ah, yes. The cautionary tale of that dangerous marijuana, or as I like to call it by its scientific name: cannabis. The film claimed that cannabis made you want to go out and kill people or listen to Satan's music, aka Jazz. Good grief, Charlie Brown.

Yes, this actually happened, and while most people are smart enough now to no longer buy into that propaganda there is still a costly stigma associated with cannabis use. A stigma that seems to be falling away one state at a time. So, South Carolina, are we next?

That is certainly my goal, but in order for that to happen education needs to take place. Last year I founded Cannabis Forward to fill that very need. Our first Medical Cannabis Education Forum took place in March and was attended by over 100 people. We are hosting our next forum on September 25th at Larkin's Sawmill and we expect the attendance to be twice as many. Cannabis industry and healthcare professionals will share with you scientific facts about a simple plant with a bad reputation. The forum is open to the public. Doctors, legislators, and caregivers are strongly encouraged to attend. Since we are a 501c3 nonprofit, we do suggest a $5 donation to attend the event.

The forum will begin at 2:30 with an introduction to Cannabis by Sebastien Cotte. Mr. Cotte serves on the board of the Flowering Hope Foundation located in Denver, Co. Next you will learn about the endocannabinoid system from our Cannabinoid Educator, Joann Collins. State Representative Jonathan Hill will offer us a glimpse at what medical cannabis legislation will look like for South Carolina, and then Dr. Uma Dhanabalan will close out the day. Dr. Uma is a Cannabis Physician for Uplifting Wellness in Boston. She will be offering insight into the opiate epidemic and how cannabis can be utilized in adjunctive and conjunctive therapies. Attendees will acquire a deeper understanding of cannabis as medicine and will feel confident in sharing this science to further reduce the stigma associated with cannabis.

Cannabis Compounds Could Hold Key To Groundbreaking Alzheimer’s Treatment

train-crash-396263_960_720Brandon Turbeville
July 8, 2016

New research coming from the Salk Institute in California and published in the Aging and Mechanisms of the Disease journal is suggesting that cannabis compounds may hold the key to a cure for Alzheimer’s. The research is being presented as work that might provide more information on how Alzheimer’s can be treated therapeutically. The scientists found that tetrahydrocannabinol and other compounds found in the cannabis plant is able to remove a toxic protein known as amyloid beta which is associated with the disease.

The Salk Institute describes the protein by writing,

It has long been known that amyloid beta accumulates within the nerve cells of the aging brain well before the appearance of Alzheimer’s disease symptoms and plaques. Amyloid beta is a major component of the plaque deposits that are a hallmark of the disease. But the precise role of amyloid beta and the plaques it forms in the disease process remains unclear.

As author of the paper and post-doctoral researcher Antonio Currais states,

Inflammation within the brain is a major component of the damage associated with Alzheimer’s disease, but it has always been assumed that this response was coming from immune-like cells in the brain, not the nerve cells themselves.

DEA To Look At “Rescheduling” Marijuana Over Next Few Months

Brandon Turbeville
Natural Blaze
April 7, 2016

It is one of the most tragically comedic aspects of the War on Drugs that marijuana is classed in the same category as heroin and LSD by the U.S. Federal Government. Such a ridiculous classification would truly be worth laughing at if it did not bring along with it mass incarcerations, militaristic policing, untold millions of wasted money and a general police state.

The utterly useless Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) currently lists marijuana as a Schedule 1 drug, a list reserved for “the most dangerous drugs” that have “no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse.” If one did not suspect that the U.S. Government’s War on Drugs was actually a cover for enslaving its citizenry, then he would be justified in wondering where the DEA has intellectually been since it was created.

Just to clarify – according to the DEA, marijuana is significantly more dangerous than cocaine. (Yes, you read that right.) That classification, however, might potentially change over the next few months. That is because the DEA has announced plans to decide “in the first half of 2016” whether or not the agency will reschedule marijuana. If the DEA should indeed reclassify the plant down to either Schedule 2 or Schedule 3, the decision would most likely open the door much wider when it comes to greater research regarding marijuana’s medicinal value.

The legal marijuana industry also stands to gain from any reclassification. But before anyone gets too excited, the DEA and the Federal Government are not suggesting that marijuana become legal at the federal level – it is only suggesting the reclassification of the plant. In other words, the U.S. Government is itself attempting to reclassify its policy on marijuana from incurable insanity to crippling and severe mental health issues.

Cannabis Juice Company Gets Around DC Law

April 5, 2016

Despite the fact that Washington, D.C. has taken the positive step of legalizing the free exchange of an ounce or less of cannabis, marijuana sales are still illegal in the district.

But some entrepreneurs are finding ways around the law in a novel way. Companies like HighSpeed, which says it has about 300 customers in D.C., say what their company does is not illegal because consumers are not buying marijuana – they are buying juice.

On HighSpeed’s website, customers are able to pick a flavor of juice to be delivered. They can opt for their juice to come with “love,” “lots of love,” or “just juice.” Love equals about an eighth of an ounce of marijuana and lots of love is slightly larger than an eighth. Ironically, “just juice” is a randomly selected amount of marijuana that comes out to be around a gram.

According to HighSpeed spokeswoman, Rachel Bor, the company has run its plan by lawyers and will be continuing its operation.

We have no doubt that more lawyers, prosecutors, police and politicians will soon get involved in an attempt to prevent HighSpeed from providing a product that many people wish to purchase. In the meantime, however, the juice costs anywhere from $11 to $150 depending on the amount of “love” preferred.

Virginia State Congress Passes Bill To Allow Specific Marijuana Oil Production In State

virginia cannabis epilepsyBrandon Turbeville
March 14, 2016

It appears that, after decades of oppressive and freedom-crushing drug legislation, even the state of Virginia is being forced to come to grips with the rising tide of public opinion that no longer views marijuana as the substance equivalent to al-Qaeda.

Fresh on the heels of a bill that was passed by the Virginia House and Senate and signed into law by Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe that allowed for the possession of marijuana oil that is being used to treat intractable epilepsy, Virginia lawmakers have recently passed legislation that will allow for the production of that oil in the state.

Back in February 2015, an emotional testimony by parents of children suffering from daily seizures (as well as a 14-year-old girl who actually had a seizure during the committee hearing), Virginia lawmakers agreed on legislation that would allow Virginia citizens to possess and use marijuana oil for the treatment of epilepsy. Anyone possessing this oil must have a doctor’s certification that it is being used to treat intractable epilepsy.

The bill also allowed doctors to issue these types of certifications. To be clear, the law did not legalize marijuana oil; in fact, possession of the oil even with a doctor’s certification is still technically illegal. However, the law provides what is known as an “affirmative defense” from prosecution for anyone that possesses the certification. Essentially, the oil is still illegal but prosecutors will be prevented from prosecuting these specific cases.

Tampa City Votes To Decriminalize Possession Of Small Amounts Of Cannabis

It’s rare when a city council mayor, police chief and anti-drugwar activist can agree on a new marijuana proposal, but that’s exactly what’s happening in Tampa, Florida. Tampa council members passed a new ordinance in a 6-to-1 vote that will decriminalize the possession of smaller amounts of marijuana. The new measure will see people who possess 20 grams or less of cannabis be issued a $75 citation for their first offense, $150 for their second, and $450 for a third or any other offenses.

The possession of 20 grams or less will also cease to be classified as a misdemeanor. Possession of more than 20 grams will still be classified as a felony. Tampa Police Department Chief, Eric Ward, who supports the measure stated, “This is not a get-out-of-jail-free card – this is to target those first time offenders that made a mistake and giving them the opportunity not to get into that criminal process.”

A founding member of the Hillsborough County Anti-Drug Alliance, disagrees, however. She told News Channel 8, “When you talk about second chances, we don’t mean third, fourth, fifth, sixth. The way the ordinance [is] written right now, they can get a citation multiple times, and there’s no requirement for any assessment, education or treatment. That’s what concerns us.”

We are not sure if this member spoke in front of the council or if there was a collective sigh of disdain from the audience when she uttered her statement, but there was most certainly a sigh of disdain when it was read.

Could New Hampshire See Marijuana Decriminalized?

March 14, 2016

According to an article by Tom Angell, of Marijuana.com, the New Hampshire House of Representatives approved a bill on March 10, that would decriminalize the possession of up to half an ounce of marijuana. Currently, New Hampshire state law considers the possession of any amount of cannabis to be a misdemeanor worth of a fine of up to $2,000 as well as up to one year in prison.

The new bill, however, would replace the criminal penalties with fines, increasing with the number of violations. For instance, $100 for a first-time offense, $200 for a second, and $500 for a third or subsequent offenses. According Angell, the passage of this bill by the House actually reverses a recommendation by the Chambers Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee which voted against decriminalization.

In an interview with Marijuana.com, the New England political director for the Marijuana Policy Project stated that,

The Senate almost worked out a governor-supported compromise that would have decriminalized first offenses only, 1/4 ounce or less, but the deal fell apart on the Senate floor the last day of session. By passing this bill we are essentially giving the Senate and governor a ‘do-over.’ It seems likely that we’ll be able to get something done, but it probably won’t be as good as decrim laws in other New England states.

Hemp Eats Radiation, Cleans Toxic Metals From Soil

January 19, 2016

It appears the uses of hemp are endless. In addition to myriad industrial products such as paper, construction material, clothing, food and fuel, hemp is also known to draw out toxic substances from the soil. In other words, not only does hemp provide humans with innumerable products, it also helps to clean the environment of the mistakes we have made in the past. It has already been discovered that hemp may be extremely useful in the removal of cadmium from the soil and other toxic metals, as well as radiation.

In fact, hemp has been seen as so successful in removing radiation from the soil that it is even being considered for use in Fukushima for the purposes of drawing out radiation. the process by which hemp cleans polluted soil is called phytoremediation – a term given to the process of using green plants to clean up the environment or “remediate” soil or water that has been contaminated with heavy metals and excess minerals. Two plants that are members of the mustard family as well as sunflowers have been known to do the same for many years. And hemp is now finding itself in the same category.

As MintPress News wrote on October 6, 2015,

A group of representatives of Consolidated Growers and Processors, PHYTOTECH, and Ukraine’s Institute of Bast Crops experimented in the late 1990s with using industrial hemp, a form of the plant that’s high in fiber but low in psychoactive or medical benefits, near the site of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, where a great deal of agricultural land is still unusable because of the presence of radiation and heavy metals still lingering from the 1986 meltdown.
