Stop Sharing Petitions – It Doesn’t Do Anything

Stop Sharing Petitions - It Doesn't Do AnythingBrandon Turbeville

Perhaps one of the most effective means of misdirecting the energy of activists and the public at large taken during the Obama administration was the creation of the White House petition site that guaranteed the White House would address any concern that could receive 100,000 signatures. Of course, the Obama administration routinely ignored many of those petitions and simply refused to listen to others that did reach the signature threshold but that didn’t stop activists from trying.

Now, with the Trump administration, who has never agreed to such a policy, activists are still trying and it’s having even less of an effect.

One has to admit that these petition drives do often have a minor positive effect of raising awareness. They are short, details are kept to a minimum, and they are usually accompanied by one evocative image. That’s about all most people can handle in terms of research and news in 2018. But that’s generally where the positives of sharing petitions end.

The problem with the petition obsession is that it doesn’t actually inform anyone beyond a short burst of text and it gives signatories a false sense of accomplishment in terms of activism. In searching social media, for instance, one can come across a myriad of petition links (sign a petition calling for the end to killing elephants, an end to zoos, an end to glyphosate poisoning, etc.) that contain a few sentences of the problem and ask readers to sign their names to the petition.

What is lacking is any intelligent discussion of the subject with a succinct description of the problem, what is causing it, the responsible parties, and what can be done about it. There is no evidence or citation. Also lacking is any organizational structure to direct the energy of those concerned in a constructive direction that will enable them to do something about the issue.

Powerlessness And Accountability

powerlessness consciousness nature volunteeringLanaria Amberkira

Op-ed by Lanaria Amberkira, The Netherlands

I often wonder, when I am watching the news, or a documentary, what can I do to end all this misery? When again bombs are thrown, when people blow themselves up and take others with them, when refugees drown, or wash ashore, saved or to be left to their own fate, with little help moving forward, then I ask myself, what can I do?

When Mother Earth shows again how deathly ill SHE is, when old lonely people get little or no attention or care, when hard-working people work longer, harder and for less or the same wages as modern slaves, when there is child labor or child abuse, human trafficking and oppression, where there is no freedom, I ask myself quite often, what can I do???

Volunteer work? Donate to charity? Go into politics? Should I try to help people in Calais, help refugees, or visit old people and possibly help, demonstrate, organize, anywhere and everywhere? I could always write about the abuses, and try to make people wake up. This I could possibly do, but would that change anything at the structural level?

The More You Know

It's been 80 years since the release of Reefer Madness. Ah, yes. The cautionary tale of that dangerous marijuana, or as I like to call it by its scientific name: cannabis. The film claimed that cannabis made you want to go out and kill people or listen to Satan's music, aka Jazz. Good grief, Charlie Brown.

Yes, this actually happened, and while most people are smart enough now to no longer buy into that propaganda there is still a costly stigma associated with cannabis use. A stigma that seems to be falling away one state at a time. So, South Carolina, are we next?

That is certainly my goal, but in order for that to happen education needs to take place. Last year I founded Cannabis Forward to fill that very need. Our first Medical Cannabis Education Forum took place in March and was attended by over 100 people. We are hosting our next forum on September 25th at Larkin's Sawmill and we expect the attendance to be twice as many. Cannabis industry and healthcare professionals will share with you scientific facts about a simple plant with a bad reputation. The forum is open to the public. Doctors, legislators, and caregivers are strongly encouraged to attend. Since we are a 501c3 nonprofit, we do suggest a $5 donation to attend the event.

The forum will begin at 2:30 with an introduction to Cannabis by Sebastien Cotte. Mr. Cotte serves on the board of the Flowering Hope Foundation located in Denver, Co. Next you will learn about the endocannabinoid system from our Cannabinoid Educator, Joann Collins. State Representative Jonathan Hill will offer us a glimpse at what medical cannabis legislation will look like for South Carolina, and then Dr. Uma Dhanabalan will close out the day. Dr. Uma is a Cannabis Physician for Uplifting Wellness in Boston. She will be offering insight into the opiate epidemic and how cannabis can be utilized in adjunctive and conjunctive therapies. Attendees will acquire a deeper understanding of cannabis as medicine and will feel confident in sharing this science to further reduce the stigma associated with cannabis.

Organizations Unite And Connect With Each Other

Wereld-van-LiefdeLanaria Amberkira
August 30, 2016

There are so many good organizations and so many individuals who all want the same thing; peace, prosperity for all and respect for Mother Earth. Unfortunately most do not or cannot connect and unite not as a collective movement, with their own talents and interests working together. If that would happen, and sooner rather than later, there would be peace and the great injustice which the world community and Mother Earth is affected by the elite could finally end.

There will be come a day that people of all races, colors and creeds will put aside their differences. (Native American Rainbow Warrior prediction)

So many organizations determine world events and how our future will look transpire in an elite manner where the few are in control. It is a moral duty for our planet and for our offspring, when governments are corrupt and lawless to stand up as ONE and not accept exploitation. In a nonviolent way, for real changes for the benefit of the community.

Recently there was a meeting of the Bilderberg Group. (What [are] our REPRESENTATIVES doing there?) They have decided to protect their safety to stop the freedom of Internet use among certain groups, of course, in their favor. Apparently they seek more control, fewer opportunities to connect, and ease to designate an organization or individual as a terrorist, or as a danger to society. (Media preparing with coverage of negative notifications steering in this direction.)

Bottom Line: There is only one truly great danger, and that is the agenda of the shadow government of the elite.

Yes You Should Vote! . . . Maybe

Dees Illustration
Brandon Turbeville
Activist Post
November 7, 2014

On November 5th, upon waking to discover the results of the 2014 elections, Conservatives and Republicans gloated in rapturous revelry, Democrats and Liberals pined and lost their cool on social media, and the vast majority of Americans didn’t really care one way or the other. In fact, one would hazard a guess that many Americans had absolutely no clue as to what actually happened on November 4th.

Despite the reactions of American voters – either elated or dejected after the election results came in – the truth is that the results don’t actually matter in terms of how the country will be run. My proof for this claim? Democrats and Republicans were elected. That should be proof enough.

Every election cycle, parties change positions and immediately begin to enact the very same policies they were elected to stop. Democrats support war, GMOs, Wall Street and the police state and Republicans pretend to oppose it (sort of). Elect Republicans and Republicans then support war, GMOs, Wall Street and the police state while Democrats pretend to oppose it (sort of). The American people, baffled by television programs, mainstream news, entertainment, and sports, scarcely recognize the fact that the entire political paradigm that they have bought into, as well as their own ideals, did an about face right before their eyes.

In other words, the 2014 elections mean nothing except that Republicans can now do exactly the same thing Democrats have done for the last few years and subsequently take the blame until it is time for the Democrats to take the position back in the future.

Voting has become a ritual performed every number of years where two piles of shit are presented to the American people and the voters are to decide which pile of shit they prefer to eat for the next 4 to 6 years.

The Two-Party Absorption: The Death Knell Of Independent Political Activism

Brandon Turbeville

The Anti Media
May 14, 2014

For decades, those few Americans who have dedicated their precious time and energy to working toward a better future for themselves and their children – regardless of the issue of their focus – have seen all their hard work come to naught as their organizations, labor, and intellectual commitments become absorbed by one or both of the two Wall Street parties. This absorption, if the issue is genuine, almost never leads to the adoption of the original idea or the implementation of the activists’ demands but rather a total watering down of the message, complete with partisan bickering and division until those players who initiated the discussion to begin with are lost in the Democrat-Republican disputes.

Yet this is not merely an attempt by the two Corporate sub-parties at harnessing the energy of grassroots activists into their own political machines. It is a coordinated attempt at derailing those campaigns entirely and shaping the very will of the people that, given half a chance, would have sided with the groups on the ground. Instead, the average person is left with nothing more than the will of the one party system presented to them in saccharine form and catered to their own inbred political pedigrees.

The fact is that, anytime an issue of concern to the American people or the cause of a true grass roots movement is taken up by one of the major parties, the death knell of that cause has been sounded.

By now, many should be able to accept the fact that the two major parties are bought and paid for by Wall Street and major corporations in addition to its being a tightly controlled cover operation for the ensconced state apparatus.

While this two party system serves a variety of functions from the standpoint of the national and world oligarchy, one of its important aspects is the ability to co-opt and redirect legitimate political activity emerging at the grassroots level and use the energy and momentum of that activity toward the goal of the oligarchy even as it appears to be doing just the opposite.
