3 Corporations That Manufacture BPA

Ever wonder who actually makes the BPA that lines plastic water bottles, andvirtually every other consumable product packaging in the United States?

While the list is undoubtedly longer, we know of at least three major companies that produce and sell the gender-bending chemical known as bisphenol-A.

Unsurprisingly, the number one chemical producer in the United States – Dow Chemical – is one manufacturer. In addition, and also unsurprisingly, Bayer AG via its subsidiary, Bayer Polymers, is also a major producer.

With the recent merger between Bayer and Monsanto, however, Dow may be unseated as the top chemical maker, as Bayer/Monsanto seek to coat the world in pesticides, herbicides, and toxic plastic chemicals.

Hexion Specialty Chemicals is also a producer of BPA with its product being found in Deer Park Water bottles.

As Heather Callaghan writes,

Bisphenol-A (BPA), a chemical found in most plastics, cans, and other types of food and drink packaging is already linked to obesity, infertility and reproductive disorders in both genders, breast cancer, behavioral problems, and more.

The journal of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciencespublished the study led by Dr. Wolfgang Leidtke finding that BPA could“suppress genes that are critical to early development of the central nervous system, which may predispose both animals and humans to neurodevelopmental disorders.”

Despite a growing consumer-based movement to eliminate BPA from food packaging and other consumer products, as well as the growing science demonstrating the toxicity of BPA even at lower levels than previously thought, the FDA that has approved the substance as safe for use in corporate America, is largely refusing to budge.

Those who understand the effects that BPA has on human biology might do some more digging to understand why the chemical is being made so ubiquitous in our environment.
