Syrian Military Victory to Become Western Propaganda Ploy?

In yet another strategic victory by the Syrian military, it was announced on December 8 by the Syrian Ministry of Defense and the General Staff that the Syrian Arab Army has liberated the town of Al-Nabk, a smaller town which is situated on the edge of the Damascus-Homs Highway. According to these announcements Al-Nabk is now largely free and clear of death squad forces.

The victory in Al-Nabk comes as a result of a series of special operations conducted by the Syrian military. Syrian Perspective reports that travel between Damascus and Homs without fear of being attacked by death squad members is now possible for the first time since the foreign-backed jihadists seized the area.

Al-Nabk is an important strategic victory because, not only does it allow reinforcements to be sent toward outer villages like Maaloula, Yabroud (where operations are now taking place), and Saydnaaya, but it also allows for the complete interlocking of supplies and reinforcements between Damascus and Homs. Such resupply and reinforcements can then be used to free the highway from Homs to Aleppo and initiate the liberation of the largest city in Syria.

Unfortunately, a disinformation campaign against the Assad government is already underway regarding the violence which took place in Al-Nabk.

This campaign is being waged by pro-Jihadist elements aiming to blame all death and destruction which came as a result of fierce fighting between death squad forces and the Syrian military as the fault and intention of the Syrian Arab Army.

For instance, video reports by the pro-FSA “media organization” known as the Qalamoun Media Center are strung together with no legitimate evidence of a Syrian military-based atrocity. However, in what has become an apparent tradition of attributing all civilian deaths, regardless of the evidence, to the Syrian army and the Assad government, the QMC attempts to place the blame for the dead civilians on the back of Syrian military.

In the English translation of the QMC video purporting to show a “massacre” of civilians by Assad’s forces, the camera pans several dead bodies of children. The narrator states,
It’s believed that this is the sight of a massacre carried out by sources loyal to President Assad in Syria. More than 40 bodies of men, women, and children were found in the town of al-Nabk, a suburb to the north of Damascus. The Syrian Arab Army had been bombarding the town as it tried to regain control from opposition groups. It’s not immediately clear whether these people died in the shelling or if they’d been killed after government troops entered the town. Either way, a lot of civilians have been killed.
Of course, the report should also add that it is not clear whether these children were killed during the shelling or BEFORE the government forces entered al-Nabk. After all, the death squad forces have never been shy about killing the young and defenseless. In addition, claims suggesting that the dead children were the results of an “Assad massacre” are based on virtually nothing concrete. Instead, the claims are based on speculation at best and outright lies and fabrications at worst.

Such erroneous propaganda is now being pushed as al-Nabk, the third of four strategic towns on the Damascus-Homs Highway has been retaken by the Syrian Army forces. According to Syria Direct, the only remaining holdout is Yabroud, the city where 12 captive nuns were taken from a convent in Maaloula by death squad forces.

Currently, the Syrian military is preparing for an assault on Yabroud as well, possibly unveiling one of the reasons why the death squads transferred the nuns to this town, i.e. to use them as human shields against approaching Assad forces and as a possible propaganda thrust in case of defeat.

Regardless of the veracity of the claims made by the Qalamoun Media Center and potentially the Western media, however, it is entirely possible that the mainstream news outlets in the West will use yet another incident such as the unfortunate civilian deaths in al-Nabk as a propaganda narrative against Assad. If this is indeed the case, we can only hope that it is as much of a failure as the last one.
